"For one who's never been much of a circus fan (scary and slapstick don't mix so well), I was utterly charmed and riveted by Circus Smirkis, from the moment it burst forth right on the dot of 2 pm in Sandwich to the joyous closing chorus of dancing, clowning young artists. There was nothing perfunctory or tedious about the fresh, talented performers, who obviously loved what they were presenting and had honed their skills to delight their audience. The physical feats of humor and of aerial daring, especially those performed high on ropes by our friend Nick Zelle, were astonishing. Added to all was the gracefulness, color, and intimacy of the show. It was beautiful, and a joy to attend."
